En el presente volumen se edita un conjunto de obras compuestas en España durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVII que llevan el rótulo de «recitativo» o de «recitado». Hay que advertir que estos términos pueden significar dos cosas: o bien una forma musical de medida más o menos libre, con el bajo estático y notas repetidas en la voz, o bien un estilo de canto que implica entonar el texto de un modo enfático y declamatorio, aunque la música sea firmemente medida. Lo común en ambos casos sería un modo de cantar que se acerca a la declamación.

Cayetano (o Gaetano) Brunetti es uno de los compositores más importantes de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII en España. Su obra comprende abundante música de cámara (sonatas para violín solo, dúos, tríos, cuartetos, quintetos, sextetos) y música sinfónica. Trabajó para las más importantes casas nobiliarias españolas (los duques de Osuna y los duques de Alba).
