El libro es el resultado la investigación realizada entre el 2005 y el 2007 en un curso de composición de la Licenciatura en Lenguas Extranjeras de la Escuela de ciencias del Lenguaje. El texto comienza analizando la problemática de la escritura en la universidad como ejercicio epistémico, hace un recorrido por las teorías y los autores que se vienen ocupando del tema, analiza la problemática y propone soluciones. Luego, centra su contenido en la perspectiva metacognitiva que es la que han elegido las autoras para construir una propuesta en el aula.
