Victoriano Salado Alvarez, escritor mexicano (1867-1931), narra en clave de ficción la historia del liberalismo mexicano de 1851 a 1867. El autor es considerado uno de los principales representantes de la novela histórica anterior a revolución.

Carlos Fuentes reveals in this novel the thoughts of an elderly man who can no longer fend for himself; the man is confronted with an imminent and torturous death, but his will does not allow him to be defeated.
