Este trabajo pretende arrojar luz sobre un aspecto de nuestra historia tan controvertido como poco estudiado. A través del análisis del caso cántabro, el autor elabora una reflexión del conflicto clerical-anticlerical que, en ningún modo, quiere perder de vista las implicaciones nacionales, e incluso europeas, del mismo.

El texto nació sólo para poner de manifiesto la necesidad, que ha crecido con el tiempo, de identificar una línea precisa de estudio y recuperación sobre un aspecto de Lodi aún desconocido para muchos: sus rutas subterráneas. Para ello, los autores han llevado a cabo una intensa investigación sobre numerosas fuentes históricas, arqueológicas, literarias y técnicas de un mundo que está a punto de ser recuperado y puesto en conocimiento de todos con un notable trabajo realizado con gran y fructífero empeño a través de la activa sinergia de las instituciones y asociaciones locales.
