Este libro pretende responder clara y brevemente a la pregunta sobre cómo debe vivir un cristiano y, también, a la cuestión sobre con qué medios cuenta para conseguirlo. Solo aceptando la ayuda de la gracia de Dios y de los sacramentos se puede afrontar debidamente la moral cristiana. Con esa ayuda, además, la persona humana es capaza de entender el valor y la grandeza de una vida conforme al ejemplo y las enseñanzas de Jesucristo. Se ha redactado en forma de manual y se ajusta a la programación de la Conferencia Episcopal Española para obtener la DECA (Declaración Eclesiástica de Capacitación Académica), correspondiente al temario «Iglesia, sacramentos y moral», asignatura que se imparte a los alumnos de tercer grado de Magisterio. Se culminan con este cuarto volumen las publicaciones de los libros de Palabra, de Religión, para los estudiantes de Magisterio, que son los siguientes: ¿Necesita el hombre la religión?, Jesús, el Hijo de Dios y Aprender a enseñar la religión.
