This series was the winner of the American Institute of Architects' prestigious "Award for Excellence in International Book Publishing". Each volume in this series is introduced with an essay on the architect, and a chronological or stylistic presentation of their most outstanding buildings and projects. No other series provides such a complete and concise summary of the world's leading architects' works. The volumes are fully illustrated in black-and-white with photos and project renderings.

The book analyses a selection of 10 houses and 14 buildings constructed in Costa Rica from 2000 to 2005 and that represent the current urban San Jose's growth trends. The domestic architecture reflects a higher purchasing power with an appreciation oh natural surroundings, the office and industrial buildings are aimed some at rescuing the historic downtown area while others were constructed in the suburban area of the city. Este libro pretende rendir homenaje a Fernando Chueca, antiguo catedrático de Historia de la Arquitectura y del Urbanismo de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid. El libro fue publicado por primer vez en 1947 como resultado de la participación del autor en un concurso nacional para dar solución al crucero de la catedral de Valladolid y de sus posteriores investigaciones sobre el tema. Está dividido en dos grandes partes, la primera histórica, sobre la construcción del templo y la segunda de estudio del monumento, ambas ilustradas con fotografías y planos.
