Este libro ofrece un analisis riguroso y ampliamente documentado de un episodio singular de la historia americana: la movilizacion y la lucha de los guaranies en defensa de sus derechos, intereses y valores. En 1750, las Coronas de Espana y Portugal firmaron un tratado de limites luego de un largo periodo de conflictos y guerras por posesiones coloniales. El traslado no llego a efectuarse, pues los guaranies, valiendose de las armas, impidieron la entrada de las autoridades reales al territorio misionero.
