Describes the degree and license mechanisms for the professional practice of architecture in Peru from the first courses in the 19th century through the beginning of the 20th century, with a detailed presentation of the school formation of the architects from 1910 to 1950 in the School of Engineering of the university. The book was originally the author's masters thesis and won the prize "Héctor Velarde" during the XI Bienal Nacional de Arquitectura, organized in 2004 by CAP.

El autor analiza distintas maneras como la sociedad otorga significado a los objetos, particularmente a los edificios públicos con una larga historia. Para ello emplea conceptos de diversas disciplinas, como la neurobiología, la fenomenología, la semiótica y la crítica literaria. A partir de tres estudios de caso -el Panteón de Roma, la Pirámide del Sol de Teotihuacan y la Alhambra de Granada- la metodología de análisis aborda los distintos cambios y alteraciones físicas de los sitios y establece una correlación con grandes transformaciones sociales e intelectuales.

Este libro analiza el legado de esta corriente en la arquitectura neoyorquina realizada durante los primeros años del siglo XXI y muestra una cuidada selección de proyectos acompañados de un cuestionario dirigido a sus creadores, que reflejan en sus respuestas el espíritu de la arquitectura de la ciudad.
