Andalucía, una de las megarregiones españolas, ocupa toda la parte sur de la Península con sus ocho provincias. Su variedad geográfica, cultural y antropológica es grande, diferenciándose ante todo, a grandes rasgos, dos conjuntos: la Andalucía Oriental, Alta Andalucía o del Mediterráneo, y la Andalucía Occidental, Baja Andalucía o del Guadalquivir. Debido al proverbial temperamento artístico del genio andaluz, el arte fluye por todas partes y en todos sus aspectos, tanto en las artes rítmicas como en las plásticas. Las Islas Canarias representan otro mundo maravilloso pero totalmente diferente. Son como las llamaron los antiguos, las Islas Afortunadas, integradas por trece de ellas. Situadas en medio del Atlántico, han recibido a la vez las corrientes artísticas vivas de la Península Ibérica y las aportaciones del otro lado del océano, uniéndose así lo europeo con lo americano. Este tomo, como los anteriores, da una visión de conjunto de las dos comunidades siguiendo el uso de materias primas: piedra, metal, madera y fibras vegetales, textiles, cerámica, cuero y otros materiales.
